My Church Mission to Mexico City

Success and happiness

Duh duh duh duh! Happy birthday Kerry! How old are you now? Wow you’re a geezer! … It’s a good thing I’m still a young’un! How does it feel to be 27? It feels a lot more, huh? … in your back, neck, and possibly even your knees. No really, I can’t believe your 27, that’s almost 30. Soon you’re going to be bald, but that’s okay, I’ll be bald with you!

My companions call me “ruco” because I’m older (actually they call us “rucos” because Elder Lauterio is 24 as well) But that’s okay… I really do feel the difference though!

Well, I hope that you all had an opportunity to do the activity I sent, and are working to complete the goals established. As we focus on what is most important, with a specific desired result, the actions we must make every day become clearer, easier and more meaningful. And that’s a blessing in such a diluted world that has yet to realize its purpose.

As I’m sure we have all realized in one way or another, the time is short, and even more so when filled with activities whose end result is undefined or unestablished. We must cherish our time by planning what is desired, then acting. By doing so we will be able accomplish great things in short periods of time, filling the time we have been given with fond memories and events, which will have contributed to the development of our personal success and happiness as well as that of them whom we serve.

I love serving as a missionary and all the challenges that includes! I am grateful for the blessings I have received and the services I have been able to provide. I am proud of the person I have been able to become through the Lord’s help and by diligently living His Gospel. Elder Lauterio and I have been having great success in the last few weeks and have had two great baptisms and more on the way.

I love you all and pray that God be with you!

How can I be more constant?

Hello my wonderful family!

All is going great here and I am healthy, safe and feeling great! The mission continues to be a challenge that is helping me to grow, and developed talents and attributes. The experience is precious every day!

More and more I am able to choose to be happy, and continue doing what I should, no matter what difficulties I face at that moment. Man that’s been hard! But priceless to learn! Consistency is so important! It is one of the basic characteristics that forms perfection. So, how can we become more constant? I know that it comes from living the Gospel and from feasting on Book of Mormon. In my youth I’ve felt very flexible and formable, like a sculptable substance. Lately I’ve been feeling more and more like that substance is beginning to harden and the form is beginning to set. I like the form I’ve chosen, and feel less and less movable in the aspect of “who I am”. I believe I am becoming closer to “who I should be”. Now I guess what’s left are the finish details.

I am profoundly grateful for the role the Gospel has played in the formation and transformation of my life, and in the divine guidance I’ve received to help me become the best being I can be. And I know that, just as Jesus Christ and His Gospel have formed the base of my life, he will continue to guide me in that process. That’s always the best part, that no matter how great it’s been so far, I know with the Gospel, there is always more!

I appreciate each one of you, my family, and am deeply grateful that you are mine!

With much love,
-Elder Packer

Zone leaders council meeting

Hola querida familia! Hello dear family!

Wow it’s been a busy busy amazing week! We had our Zone leaders council meeting this week in the mission house; it was over the course of two days. One of the most spiritual and amazing things that happened during the council is we studied the Book of Mormon together with President Bulloch. He was one of the 7 head people in CES [Church Educational System] before he was called to be a Mission President, so to say the least he is a very spiritual man who really knows his scriptures, how to ring them dry and apply them to himself. Something I have been trying to work on.

I just bought the new Bible in Spanish, which is really exciting for the members here. Although I don’t know how much I’ll use it since we try to focus on the Book of Mormon with all of our investigators. Still it truly is an amazing time to be here in Mexico serving the Lord and building His kingdom! “Now is the time for Mexico” is what the brethren of the church have been saying.

I love you all so very much, I am so grateful that we have the Restored Gospel to guide our lives. I know that Christ lives, I have experienced His profound love in my life. He is the only way to true freedom and that is what everyone really wants and needs! Live a week that worth living. May God’s grace be upon every one of us!

National Anthropology Museum

Hola,

Well, another interesting week. Last Saturday we went to the National Anthropology Museum which was amazing! They have artifacts from all over Mexico and it was very intriguing to see just how diverse the Mexican culture is.

This week we were supposed to have our zone conference, however President Bulloch had a kidney stone, :/ so he was several days in the hospital and they eventually had to remove it surgically. Not very fun I imagine.Later he showed us the stone (he had it in a little plastic bag, it was funny shaped and quite large). The other thing that happened was that he couldn’t leave the hospital until the medical bill was paid, so we had to make a forum and bring it upstairs to the [Church's] General Financier for all of Mexico to sign it.

Our area is starting to improve drastically…I don’t know if I explained that when I came here the President changed our area so we started the cycle without investigators and we didn’t know anyone in the ward. So we created a member based mission plan for the area and it is going great; we have one family, a part member family, and a young adult who are all progressing, as well as various other. The young adult’s name is Vicky and is going to get baptized next week. She has had some form of abuse in her past and it has been amazing how quickly and thoroughly the Gospel of Jesus Christ heal people emotional and spiritually. I love being a missionary!

Have and amazing week! I love you!
